UPDATES FROM OUR FIELD REPRESENTATIVES:

*HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE EAST:

The economic climate that has affected the entire United States did not leave eastern Montana out of its path.  Our members have done a tremendous job in looking past economics and focusing on working conditions and their right to have a voice in the work place because of their union contract.  We look forward to our country and state making it through this tough time, so that we can continue to bargain better wages for all our members. -JOSH JENSEN, EASTERN FIELD REPRESENTATIVE

*Gallatin County 911 recently agreed to a two-year contract with the county.  The members made great improvements to their working conditions with unique language changes.

*Dawson County Correction in Glendive also recently ratified a two-year contract.  The employees not only increased their comp time, they bargained the state longevity plan into their current contract which did not include a longevity payment.

*HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEST:

All in all, this year,  negotiations have been difficult due to the recession and the uncertainty that cities and counties face. The impact of layoffs in the private sector, and ongoing foreclosures is driving cities and counties to tighten their hold on existing revenues in order to ride out the economic storm. -SCOTT LYDERS, WESTERN FIELD REPRESENTATIVE

*Welcome Lake County Roads Department Employees. In an organizing effort led by Paul Tryon and his co-workers; and after over 10 months of negotiations a first contact was signed in June of this year.

*Missoula Community Medical center LPN’s have settled on final TA’s after 8 months of negotiations. At press time plans were to hold a ratification vote in late June or early July.

*Flathead County Detention center employees have ratified a two year agreement.

*Both City of Kalispell and City of Libby employees have voted to roll their existing contract over for one year due to the dire economic problems those two cities face. The Libby City Council has commended the Local for their willingness to help the city ride out the current situation.

In negotiations: Troy 911 dispatchers, Libby Schools, Missoula 911 dispatchers, Missoula Detention Center Officers and support staff, Lake County 911 Dispatch, Lake County Sheriffs Deputies and Lake County Detention Center employees.
